Welcome!

This site is a personal compilation of notes from the Northern Paiute language program taught at the University of Nevada by Ralph Burns. It describes the Pyramid Lake dialect, though supplementary notes may refer to other dialects.

Orthography

Pyramid Lake uses the Wycliffe writing system, which is designed to resemble English orthography. For my own convenience, I primarily use an orthography that represents Pyramid Lake pronunciation as taught, but hews closer to the IPA-like standard used in materials such as the Northern Paiute-Bannock Dictionary(Powell, Glenda, et al. University of Utah Press, 2012).
